A friend passed along this new catchy Cubs song. A little country... but I like country.
One quibble: The lyric about going back to 1908 has no place in a song called "Let's Go to Wrigley." As all fans should remember, Wrigley wasn't built until 1914 and the Cubs didn't call it home until 1916.
• Cubs Media Guide Trivia tid-bit: The Cubs installed a new field drainage system at Wrigley Field prior to the 2008 season. This system was designed by Roger Bozzard who has constructed fields for five of the last seven World Series winners. (Boston 2004, 2007; Arizona, 2001; St. Louis, 2006; and the White Sox, 2005.)
This entire post should be a media guide tid-bit. With their second consecutive division title, the Cubs will be appearing in the post season in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1908. (The Cubs went to the World Series in 1906, 1907, and 1908.)
The Hurricane in Texas tossed the Cubs-Astros series into upheaval. MLB moved the games to Milwaukee. I wasn't doing anything on Sunday and could have easily gone... and I've never caught a game at Miller Park, but I opted to eat dinner with some friends instead.
On the way home from that dinner, I'm riding on the El and I say to myself: "I wonder how the Cubs did. HOLY SHIT! I MISSED IT!"
I've never been more disappointed about a great thing happening to the Cubs. Not only should I have been there, but I didn't even see the game on TV.
• Cubs Media Guide Trivia tid-bit: Carlos Zambrano has a chance to be the first Cub pitcher since Claude Passeau in the 1940's to win over 100 games in a calendar-decade. He entered 2008 with 82 victories in the '00s. Fergie Jenkins won 140 games between 1967 and 1972, but split those wins across the '60s and '70s.
